Good to know someone else is just jumping right in there with photography and trying to figure this whole thing out! (That's pretty much right where I'm at..) Not sure what big thing happened in 2009 that changed your life, but I had something like that too, so the process of rediscovery of self and my own passions is becoming very exciting for me as well.. Good luck on the challenge! :) We can trudge through this together... onward we go!
